What makes a good festival? First all venues need to be close together, second the location needs to be one which people would visit even if there was no festival and third the combination of performance and venue needs to be exceptional. Introducing the East Neuk Festival.
Based in that beautiful corner of Fife around St Andrews, Crail, Anstruther, Elie, St Monans and Pittenweem the festival has since 2004 presented a galaxy of fantastic artists in venues across Fife and developed a very loyal following.
Created by my predecessor at Perth Concert Hall Svend McEwan-Brown the festival has twice won the Royal Philharmonic Society Award for audience development. Artists with close associations with the festival include Christian Zacharias, LLyr Williams, the Tallis Scholars and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra ensuring concerts of the highest quality. There are also large scale community projects and the best sand sculptures you have ever seen.
Silent in 2020 the festival has roared back to life in 2021 with a strong online programme in partnership with BBC Radio 3 and a great weekend of live concerts at the Bowhouse to audiences of around 100. Have a look at the website and get a feel.
