Day 367 - Why do we programme who we programme?
Sorry about the grammar. Perth Concert Hall is lucky enough to present the only programmed classical season in Scotland. The venue works for al scales of ensemble, so how do we choose what to do. One of our absolute key priorities is to support Scottish musicians at all stages in their careers. Steven Osborne chose our piano and is a world famous pianist who performs and records regularly in the hall. Just as important is nurturing young artists at the beginning of their careers. The Maxwell Quartet started coming to Perth as recent graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and now return as part of our Easter series as a major international quartet. We have built series around Scottish pianist Susan Tomes who is one of the UK's most highly respected chamber musicians and we regularly present soloists from the Scottish Orchestras. Presenting young and developing artists in the context of a season which also includes the orchestras and Dunedin Consort and Scottish Ensemble raises their profile and also gives musicians reasons to stay loyal to Scotland as their career develops. Our Easter Festival of classical music is a perfect manifestation of all of this. All the performers are of the highest level and all are based in Scotland. Scott Mitchell, who plays with Maxi Martin comes from Perth!
