Day 34 - 1981 Academy Award Winning Animation Tango
At the Edinburgh International Festival 2018 I saw Home by the artist Geoff Sobelle. A performance which was part magic show, part audience participation, part chorus piece.
Theatre directors are magpies picking up the thread of a thought here and there, and shifting, reducing and expanding that thought into something new. Home had its roots and inspiration in this short animated film which won an Academy Award in 1981 by Polish director Zbigniew Rybczynski.
Beginning with a boy accidentally throwing a ball through a window and culminating in an impossible chorus - Tango loops moments and rituals from multiple lives in the same room, and the result is beautiful encapsulation of human life.
