Day 327 - Stars in our Orchestras IV - Timothy Orpen

John Cushing was principal clarinet for 36 years - retiring in 2014. Replacing a musical institution is not easy, but the RSNO have fond another star. Timothy Orpen comes to the RSNO with a very starry pedigree indeed. Formerly the principal clarinet of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and before that the Royal Northern Sinfonia. He is also a founder member and principal of the Aurora Orchestra, with whom he continues to perform regularly. He has performed and broadcast concertos with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony, Royal Northern Sinfonia and Aurora Orchestra, Timothy is a previous overall winner of the Royal Over-Seas League competition and has been featured many times as a soloist on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. His playing on the RSNO's digital season has been consistently outstanding and we should look out for RSNO concerto slots coming up soon.

In his spare time, he has climbed 6,000 metre mountains in the Himalayas. Hard to comment really!
