Day 296 - Della Mae: The Grass Is Blue

A powerfully emotional performance of a Dolly Parton classic from Della Mae mandolin player Jenni Lyn Gardner, who just about manages to make it to the end of the song before breaking down. Della Mae were the house band for Because We're Women; The Songs Of Dolly Parton at Southern Fried 2015, from which this recording is taken.

Della Mae is a GRAMMY-nominated, Nashville-based, all-female string band made up of lead vocalist/guitarist Celia Woodsmith, 2-time national champion fiddle player Kimber Ludiker, and mandolinist Jenni Lyn Gardner. Hailing from across North America, and reared in diverse musical styles, they are one of the most charismatic and engaging roots bands touring today. They have travelled to over 30 countries spreading peace and understanding through music.

Their mission as a band is to showcase top female musicians, and to improve opportunities for women and girls through advocacy, mentorship, programming, and performance.
