Day 235 - Hit the Road Jack

I'm interested in the word 'amateur'. The root of the word being of course 'love'. And the difference between 'amateur' and 'professional' being a blurred line - particularly in music, where extraordinary professional musicians play unpaid and unrecognised.

This trio of dancers came to my attention over the weekend. What I love about their work is the level of attitude and emotional expression they bring. Pair that with a context of this particular American moment coming to an end, and what that means for young women of colour, and this brilliant routine (filmed back in July but now circulating on social media because of Saturday) becomes high art.

These young women are teenagers from the Netherlands. It is mooted that it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert in something. I'm pretty sure they've put the time in, and could teach professional dancers a thing or two.
