Day 157 - Stop Press from the BBCSSO

The relationship between orchestras and their regular conductors is the lifeblood of music-making and the appointment of Alpesh Chauhan as Associate Conductor this week promises to lead to musical fireworks. He grew up in Birmingham where he was first a cellist in the CBSO youth orchestra and was then skilfully nurtured by CBSO Chief Executive Stephen Maddock into a conducting fellowship followed by a post as assistant conductor shadowing the charismatic Andris Nelsons, He first worked with the BBCSSO when he replaced then music director Donald Runnicles at short notice. Since then he has returned regularly. He is also music director of Birmingham Opera, one of the most creative companies around. We can't wait to welcome him to Perth!
