Day 136 - Southern Fried Stories: Blue Rose Code

Ross Wilson aka Blue Rose Code has performed twice at Southern Fried. He played a memorable and powerfully emotional afternoon show at Perth Theatre in 2018 with our wonderful community choir, Southern Fried Voices. In 2016, along with Iain Sloan on guitars and Nico Bruce on bass, he opened for Mary Chapin Carpenter at Perth Concert Hall, from which this brilliant Neil Young cover is taken.

A nomad, both geographically and musically, Ross Wilson aka Blue Rose Code writes straight from – and to -the heart. His songs address universal themes of love, loss, travel, home, accepting the past and embracing the future in a deeply personal way. They are variously painted with the vibrant colours of folk, Americana, jazz, country, soul, pop and, increasingly, celtic traditions. This eclecticism has become a hallmark of his work and has seen him compared to John Martyn, Van Morrison and Tom Waits amongst others.
