Day - 132 - Southern Fried Stories: Darrell Scott
An astonishingly gifted multi-instrumentalist and lauded songwriter, Darrell Scott is a giant of American roots music. We've been lucky to have him grace our stages 3 times: in 2012 when he also took part in our Johnny Cash: Songwriter show, in 2013 opening for Patty Griffin with Danny Thompson, and in 2018 when he headlined an afternoon show in Perth Theatre. Here, he talks about his memories of the festival followed by a beautiful version of his moving tribute to fellow songwriter David Olney, who passed away in January.
Darrell Scott is not only one of the finest songwriters in Nashville, but a stunning singer, a phenomenal guitar player and a gifted multi-instrumentalist to boot. His songs have been covered by Suzy Boggus, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Kathy Mattea, Maura O'Connell, Guy Clark and most notably The Dixie Chicks with Long Time Gone
After recently touring with Robert Plant and the Zac Brown Band (2 years with each), and producing albums for Malcolm Holcomb and Guy Clark and being named “songwriter of the year” for both ASCAP and NSAI, these days find him roaming his Tennessee wilderness acreage hiking along the small river, creating delicious meals with food raised on his property and playing music..
