Day 118 - St Mary's Music School - World Class Nursery!
St Mary's Music School in Edinburgh is the only one of the nine specialist music schools to be located in Scotland. Originally founded to educate the choristers at St Mary's Cathedral it became a fully fledged specialist music school in 1972 joining such illustrious peers as The Yehudi Menuhin, Purcell and Wells Cathedral Schools. It produces a continuing stream of brilliant musicians such as Garry Walker (Music Director of Opera North), Philip Higham and Steven Osborne who needs no introduction to Perth audiences! Alexander Armstrong was also a chorister! It very much hopes that the next stage in its development with be a move to the Old Royal High School in Edinburgh redeveloped as a purpose built music school with its own concert hall. As you can see from the final of this year's recital prize competition below the pupils certainly deserve it!
