Day 117 - Hamilton
Whislt admitting that it's odd to be promoting Disney Plus here, this is something not to be missed. The extraordinary Hamilton - all two hours and forty minutes of it is now available on Disney Plus (filmed in July 2016 with the full original principle company).
In the unlikely event you haven't heard about Hamilton, it is a musical with book, lyrics, and score by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It is based on Ron Chernow's 2004 biographyAlexander Hamilton, and explores the life of this American Founding Father, creator of the country's financial system and the first Secretary of the Treasury.
The musical premiered off-Broadway at the Public Theater in February 2015 before moving to Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre that summer. Recipient of 11 Tony Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and a Grammy,Hamiltonis staged by Miranda's longtime collaborators Thomas Kail (direction), Andy Blankenbuehler (choreography), and Alex Lacamoire (musical direction and orchestrations).
At one point, Oskar Eustice the Artistic Director of the Public Theatre was pushing for the right to perform Hamilton to be made available to all high schools across America. So if you wanted to see the show, you could either see the original show production, or you could catch it in your local high-school. A brilliant idea... yet to be launched.
And just because it's delightful, the original principle company and Obama at the White House is worth a watch:
