Day 113 - Oh What a Night, a Musical Knight
Scotland is unbelievably lucky to have one of the world's finest composers leading our musical life. Sir James MacMillan's career is the stuff of legend. Associate Composer with the SCO in the late 80s his career was set alight by the amazing 'Confession of Isobel Gowdie' and 'Veni Veni Emmanuel' written for Evelyn Glennie and both premiered at the Proms. His music is now performed all over the world. He has close links with Perth Concert Hall as we hosted the Scottish Premiere of his Oboe Concerto as well as the World Premieres of 'The Rumoured Seed' and his Saxophone Concerto which we commissioned. Not content with a stellar composing and conducting career he has recently created his own festival - The Cumnock Tryst. The festival is a celebration of music in MacMillan's birthplace. In common with everything else he seems to touch it has been a huge success. It won the Royal Philharmonic Society award for Festivals in 2019 - what else would one expect!
