Day 112 - Letter From Perth: Will Kimbrough Covers Michael Marra

Updated: Jul 22

Another fabulous cover of an appropriately hopeful Michael Marra song for you (after Solas Festival's lovely All Will Be Well, posted on Day 98). This recently released and retitled version of Letter From Perth is from Nashville singer-songwriter, producer and guitar-slinger Will Kimbrough, who says of it: "I loved this song the first time I heard it. Recorded it a while back and never released the song. I hope you love it too".

Originally recorded on Michael's 2000 album Posted Sober, it's written from the viewpoint of a Perth prison inmate, the protagonist looking forward to a brighter future with his partner; arguably a very fitting metaphor for the times we're living in. Either way, great music will always help us through them.

Alabama native Will Kimbrough has spent a lifetime writing songs and performing them, along the way becoming a respected recording artist, producer and musician. Will's songs have been recorded by Jimmy Buffett, Little Feat, Todd Snider, Jack Ingram, Gretchen Peters and many others. His production credits include Buffett, Doug Seegers, Todd Snider, Radney Foster and Steve Poltz. Will is a prolific writer and recording artist, a member of Willie Sugarcapps, DADDY and Emmylou Harris' Red Dirt Boys as well as a frequent collaborator with Southern Fried favourite Dean Owens.
