Day 109 - And then there were three!

There are three fabulous classical musicians who cut through to general public consciousness - Nicky Benedetti, Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Alison Balsom - all have associations with Perth Concert Hall! It is no surprise that those three were the lead signatures on the most recent letter to the DCMS pleading for support for classical musicians. Alison's last Perth visit was with the BBCSSO for the hall's 10th anniversary concert. Like all great musicians she transcends her instrument - she isn't just a fabulous trumpeter, she is a fabulous musician. In addition to core concerto repertoire she also plays jazz and has made a recent specialism of playing the baroque valveless trumpet of Bach, Handel and Purcell's time. She has recently developed a career as a BBC TV presenter, taken place at the Wanamaker and led the Cheltenham Festival. In her limited spare time she is married to Sam Mendes, director of Bond films, American Beauty and 1917!
