Day 152 - Concerts I wish I had been to No IV

The programme opens with Guenter Wand conducting Mozart's Overture to the Marriage of Figaro. As mentioned before in these pages Wand was a wonderful conductor with personal eccentricities! Clifford Curzon performing Mozart's D minor piano concerto accompanied by Benjamin Britten and the English Chamber Orchestra is a testament to one of the truly great musical collaborations. The LSO recording of Rachmaninov's 2nd Symphony under Andre Previn is pure pleasure. This was a great period in the orchestra's history and Jack Brymer's rendering of the gorgeous clarinet solo in the slow movement is to die for. All in all an evening of musical bliss delivered by musical gods!
